Stars and Hourglasses
About 18 months ago, one of the members of my Small Group of quilters brought a show and tell to our get together. It was a red and green quilt made in the Stars and Hourglass pattern from Pat Speth's book, Nickel Quilts. We all Ooooohed and Ahhhhhhed at how awesome it was. Then someone suggested it would make a great block swap and we should all make it. I can't ever turn down a block swap, as is evidenced by the many boxes of blocks in my sewing room. Some of use wanted to duplicate the red and green quilt, but some wanted other colors to go with the green, so we just swapped green/neutral half square triangles. Then some of us did a side swap of red/neutral half square triangles.

Then, it was discussed that the pattern would look really good in black and orange and another swap was organized. I participated in that one as well, but my blocks are still in a box. This is a friend's quilt.

Then one was made in gray and purple/magenta.

I have heard that the original instigator...um, quilt maker has made 7 of these quilts, each with different color combos. I honestly haven't seen a single one that wasn't amazing. It's such a great pattern, and it's nice to have it in the arsenal for when I need a reliable go-to I can use with any color combo.
What's your favorite go-to quilt pattern?
Stay healthy,
D
